DIY Notes
* For free-standing gate posts, holes should be 500–600 mm deep. In sandy soil, depths of 700–1000 mm may be required. Consult a structural engineer if unsure.
* The distance between the inner sides of the two posts at the top must match the distance at the bottom, with a tolerance of +/-5 mm to ensure the difference is not visually noticeable. For example, if the top distance is 1000 mm, the acceptable bottom distance ranges from 995 mm to 1005 mm.
* Ensure a 10–15 mm gap on the latch side, depending on the type of lock or latch used. If the gap is too narrow the gate will scratch the post, and insecured if too wide.
